About this place
Regional cuisine from Wenzhou, along the coast of Zhejiang province, departs from the fiery chilies and numbing spices often associated with Chinese dining, leaning instead into clean seafood savour and light, refreshing acidity. Tucked into Higashi-Nippori, Oumi is dedicated to these local Wenzhou flavors.
A classic starting point is the noodle soup served with handmade, rustic fish balls. Lightly perfumed with ginger and tender in bite, the fish balls arrive over thick rice noodles in a broth lifted by a gentle touch of vinegar. Diners can select fish balls, pork offal, or beef, served with either standard wheat noodles or rice noodles. Freestanding soups, such as broth with tender pork meatballs, are also on hand.
Seafood options include razor clams, commonly prepared steamed or dressed with black vinegar. The menu extends across casual sharing plates and homestyle staples: swimming crab stir-fried with rice cakes, cuttlefish with preserved mustard greens, and rolled tofu sheets stuffed with pork, all easily paired with Shaoxing wine or Tsingtao beer. For dessert, choices range from glutinous rice parcels to sweet soups with red dates and silver ear fungus, as well as osmanthus-scented glutinous rice balls.
